Xiaowang AI Translate Privacy Policy
Popvee (operating the Xiaowang AI Translate service, hereinafter "we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting the privacy and security of your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, store, and safeguard information when you use Xiaowang AI Translate, including the Chrome browser extension, translation interfaces, speech recognition interfaces, related webpages, and related services (collectively, the "Services").
By installing, accessing, or using the Services, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with this Privacy Policy, you should stop using the Services and uninstall the extension.
1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy applies to Xiaowang AI Translate and related services provided by Popvee. It is designed to help you understand what information may be processed, why it is processed, how it may be shared, and what choices you have.
The Services are built as a Chrome Manifest V3 extension. Some processing happens locally in your browser, and some translation or speech recognition requests may be sent to our service endpoint at translate.popvee.me or other service endpoints that you configure.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Personal Information
Xiaowang AI Translate does not currently require you to create an account, submit your real name, provide government identity information, or provide payment information in order to use the extension.
- Translation content: When you use webpage translation, selected text translation, hover translation, text translation, or file translation, the extension may process webpage text, selected text, nearby hover text, text you enter, or text contained in files you actively upload.
- Video subtitle content: When you use subtitle translation on supported websites, the extension may read subtitle text, subtitle timing information, subtitle API responses, and related context needed to generate translated subtitles.
- Audio subtitle content: When you actively start audio subtitle translation, the extension may capture current-tab audio and send related audio data to a speech recognition service to generate recognition text and translated subtitles. This function runs only after you enable it.
- Extension settings: The extension may store your language preferences, target language, subtitle display settings, floating ball settings, translation service URL, speech recognition service URL, API key configuration, and local translation cache.
- Communication information: If you contact us through the Chrome Web Store developer profile or other Popvee official channels, we may process the information you provide, such as your contact details, request content, and related correspondence.
2.2 Other Information We Collect
- Usage and service information: When you call our translation or speech recognition services, our servers may receive technical information such as request time, interface call status, extension version, browser type, operating system information, IP address, error logs, and service performance data.
- Device and connection information: We may process limited technical information about your device and network connection to help operate, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the Services.
- Local browser data: Some preferences and cache data are stored locally in your browser or Chrome sync storage. You may remove this data by clearing extension data, resetting extension settings, or uninstalling the extension.
2.3 Information We Do Not Intentionally Collect
We do not intentionally collect health information, financial account information, payment card numbers, government identity documents, precise geolocation, biometric identifiers, or other sensitive information unless a future feature requires it and we provide additional notice or obtain consent where required by law.
3. How We Use Your Information
3.1 Provide and Improve the Services
- Deliver the translation, subtitle, selected text, hover, file, and audio subtitle features you request;
- Identify source text, generate translated output, match subtitle timing, and display results in the extension panel or current webpage;
- Store and retrieve extension preferences, local cache, and configuration settings;
- Maintain service reliability, diagnose errors, and improve performance and user experience.
3.2 Translation and Speech Recognition Processing
Translation content, subtitle content, and audio content are processed to provide the specific translation or speech recognition result you request. We do not use such content for unrelated advertising, credit evaluation, lending decisions, or purposes unrelated to the single purpose of the Services.
3.3 Communication
If you contact us, we use the information you provide to respond to your questions, handle support requests, investigate complaints, and send necessary service-related communications.
3.4 Analytics, Research, and Service Security
We may analyze technical, usage, and performance information to detect abuse, prevent unauthorized access, troubleshoot issues, evaluate service stability, and improve the Services. We do not use advertising tracking cookies in the Chrome extension itself.
3.5 AI Model Training
We do not use your translation content, uploaded text files, subtitle content, or current-tab audio to train our own AI models unless you explicitly opt in. Third-party service providers we use may have their own data handling practices. We require service providers to process information only for the purposes necessary to provide the Services.
3.6 Aggregated and De-Identified Data
We may aggregate or de-identify information so that it can no longer reasonably identify you. We may use such information for analytics, service improvement, security monitoring, and research. Aggregated or de-identified data is not treated as personal information under this Privacy Policy where applicable law allows.
4. Cookie Policy
4.1 Essential Cookies
The Chrome extension itself does not use cookies for advertising tracking. If you visit our official website, help pages, privacy policy page, or service webpages, those pages may use essential cookies or similar technologies required for page operation, security, error diagnosis, or service delivery.
4.2 Analytics Cookies
Related webpages may use analytics cookies or similar technologies to understand page traffic, service performance, and error conditions. The extension's core translation functions primarily rely on Chrome extension storage rather than browser cookies.
4.3 Advertising Cookies
The extension does not use advertising cookies to track your browsing activity across websites. If we introduce advertising or marketing cookies on related webpages in the future, we will provide notice and choice where required by law.
4.4 Managing and Clearing Cookies
Most browsers allow you to clear browser cache and cookies through browser settings. Clearing cookies or local storage may affect features that depend on stored preferences or cached data.
5. Data Sharing and Disclosure
5.1 Third-Party Service Providers
We may share information with third-party service providers that help us operate the Services, such as infrastructure hosting providers, translation service providers, speech recognition providers, security providers, logging providers, and customer support tools. These providers are required to process information only for the purposes for which it was shared and to protect it with appropriate safeguards.
5.2 Legal Requirements
We may disclose information if required by law, regulation, legal process, governmental request, or where disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, property, users, the public, or the security of the Services.
5.3 Business Transfers
If Popvee or its affiliates are involved in a merger, acquisition, reorganization, asset transfer, financing, bankruptcy, or similar transaction, information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will require the recipient to continue protecting personal information in a manner consistent with this Privacy Policy unless otherwise required by law.
5.4 With Your Consent
We may share information with other parties when you direct us to do so or when you give explicit consent.
5.5 Exceptions: Sharing Without Prior Authorization
To the extent permitted by applicable law, we may share or disclose information without obtaining prior consent in the following circumstances:
- When necessary to fulfill legal or regulatory obligations;
- When directly related to public safety, network security, fraud prevention, or abuse prevention;
- When necessary for criminal investigation, prosecution, trial, or enforcement of judgments;
- When necessary to protect the life, property, or other significant legal interests of you or another person and it is difficult to obtain consent;
- When the information has already been made public by you;
- When the information is collected from legally and publicly disclosed sources;
- In other circumstances permitted by applicable laws and regulations.

6.1 Withdrawing Authorization and Consent
You may withdraw non-essential authorizations by disabling extension features, changing extension settings, clearing local extension data, revoking browser permissions where available, or uninstalling the extension. If you withdraw consent, we will stop processing the corresponding information where required by law. Withdrawal will not affect processing that occurred lawfully before withdrawal.
6.2 Lawful Basis for Processing
Depending on the specific circumstances, we process personal information on one or more of the following bases: performance of a contract, consent, legal obligation, legitimate interests, vital interests, and legal claims. Legitimate interests include providing translation features, maintaining service security, preventing abuse, troubleshooting, and improving service reliability.
6.3 Data Retention under GDPR
- Local extension settings and cache: Retained in your browser until you clear extension data, reset settings, or uninstall the extension.
- Translation and subtitle request data: Retained only as long as reasonably necessary to provide the requested result, maintain service reliability, troubleshoot errors, or meet legal obligations.

6.4 Data Transfers Outside the EEA
We may process or transfer information outside your country or region. Where required by law, we use appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses or other lawful transfer mechanisms.
7. CCPA Compliance (California Residents)

We do not sell your personal information for monetary consideration. We also do not use the Chrome extension to track you across websites for targeted advertising. You may contact us through the Chrome Web Store developer profile or Popvee official contact channels to exercise applicable rights.
8. Other US State Privacy Laws
We comply with applicable US state privacy laws, including privacy laws in Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, and other states with comparable requirements where they apply to the Services. Residents of these states may have rights similar to those described above.
9. Data Security
We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards to protect information, including encryption in transit, access controls, service monitoring, vulnerability management, and incident response procedures.
However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security. If a data breach affecting your personal information occurs, we will notify you as required by applicable law.
9.1 Chrome Extension Permissions
To provide the Services, Xiaowang AI Translate may use the following Chrome permissions:
- storage: Saves language preferences, translation settings, subtitle display settings, service URLs, API key configuration, and local translation cache.
- activeTab: Accesses the current tab when you click the extension and actively use its features, so the extension can process current-page content, selected text, or video subtitles.
- scripting: Injects the translation panel, subtitle overlay, selected text translation, hover translation, and audio subtitle display scripts into the current page.
- tabCapture: Captures current-tab audio only after you actively enable audio subtitle translation.
- offscreen: Processes audio capture, resampling, and speech recognition streaming in the Manifest V3 background environment.
- Host permissions: Allows the extension to read subtitles or webpage text on supported websites and access translation or speech recognition service endpoints.
9.2 Security Limitations and Exemptions
To the extent permitted by applicable law, we are not liable for information leakage, loss, or damage caused by circumstances beyond our reasonable control, including force majeure events, cyberattacks, computer viruses, government restrictions, third-party websites or services, user error, or unauthorized use of the Services.
9.3 Service Termination and Data Handling
If we terminate the Services or cease operations, we will provide notice through reasonable means where required or appropriate and will delete or anonymize personal information within a reasonable period unless retention is required by applicable law.
10. Children's Privacy
The Services are not intended for use by children under the age of 13 in the United States, under the age of 16 in the European Economic Area, or under the corresponding minimum age in your jurisdiction. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the applicable age.
10.1 Note to Guardians
If you are the parent or guardian of a minor user, please review this Privacy Policy carefully and decide whether to allow the minor to use the Services. We encourage guardians to educate minors about personal information protection and to instruct them not to provide personal information without guardian consent.
10.2 Note to Minors
If you are under the applicable minimum age, please read this Privacy Policy together with your parent or guardian and obtain their consent before using the Services or submitting any information.

11. User Content and Responsibility
You retain rights to the text, subtitles, files, and other content you provide to the Services, subject to applicable law and third-party rights. We do not claim ownership over your original content or translated outputs generated for you.
You are responsible for ensuring that the content you translate, upload, process, or use through the Services does not infringe the rights of others and does not violate applicable laws, platform rules, or third-party terms. Translated output may contain errors, omissions, or inaccurate interpretations, and you should review it before relying on it for important purposes.
